Aam Aadmi Party MLA Prem Chauhan, along with residents of Sangam Vihar, staged a protest on Thursday against Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma during his visit to the area. The protest was over the removal of municipal water tankers which had led to a severe water shortage for locals.

AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the BJP-led city government, accusing it of creating a crisis. “The BJP’s fraudulent government has removed water tankers from Sangam Vihar, causing immense hardship,” he said.

He questioned the rationale behind the water shortage despite cold weather and sufficient water in the Yamuna river.

During the protest, Prem Chauhan claimed that the number of water tankers serving the Deoli constituency had been cut from 70 to zero. He alleged that the tankers had been diverted to a constituency represented by a BJP MLA and that development funds for the area had been withdrawn.

Chauhan also stated that he was prevented by police from presenting letters of grievance from residents to the Water Minister. He accused the “tanker mafia” of operating freely while the government turned a blind eye.

The protest underscores the persistent water supply challenges in several unauthorized colonies of South Delhi, where residents often depend on tankers for their daily water needs.
